The Prison Sangha
Lama Padma, along with several members of Chagdud Gonpa Amrita, regularly travel to the Washington State Reformitory (high security) and the Twin Rivers Unit (medium security) in Monroe, Washington. These are both medium-security facilities operated by the Washington Department of Corrections.
Both prisons have active Buddhist communities with men from many traditions. Lama Padma has been their teacher for more than nine years. The prison sanghas are supported by our community with money, books, volunteers, and other dharma items.
If you are interested in joining Lama Padma as he teaches in the prisons, please contact the office at (206) 546-8095. The prison requires an extensive application and a one-day training session for all volunteers. We will be happy to get your application started!
Annual Prison Events
Once or twice a year the men of the prison sangha are permitted to invite others to attend a banquet inside the prison. No training is required to attend, however a short application with some background information must be submitted in advance. Once again, please contact the office for more information.
